Derek Besant RCA has had a long and innovative career. He started by graduating with a BFA Honours from the University of Calgary, then worked as the Exhibitions Designer for the Glenbow Museum. He taught in the Drawing and Fine Arts Department at the Atlanta University of Art and Design, becoming Head of their Drawing Department and subsequently lecturing at Texas State University in San Marcos. Derek has also been invited to curate exhibitions around the world.
Derek’s work has been featured in exhibitions, galleries, and museums in numerous countries, including Cambridge, England; Goa, Portugal; Edinburgh, Scotland; Liege, Belgium; London, England; Los Angeles, USA; Tokyo, Japan; Madrid, Spain; New York, USA; Ottawa, Canada; Sharjah, United Arab Emirates; Toronto, Canada; and Vernon, Canada.
In 2020, Derek began using Pizazz Edgemounts to display the images in his exhibition "Drawing Confusions," in which he used lenticular and latex UV ink technologies to record architectural construction sites. The exhibition was shown at the International Duoro Printmaking Biennial, held at the Coa Museum in northern Portugal.
