About Pizazz

The story, so far...

Pizazz was created and continues to be directed by David Pountney and Jan Powell.

They understood the unique power and immense communication value of images and that the introduction of digital printing would result in profound changes in the market for, and display of, all forms of graphic images.

Digital printing would make short production runs of graphic images economic, and customers would be able to change them more often, resulting in massive growth in the market for graphic images. It would also create a market for new graphic image display systems that enabled customers to change their graphic images easily and safely whenever they wanted. That functionality was not possible with picture framing and foamboard mounting, the main existing options.

Pizazz started with the introduction of its two part standoff Monomounts.

The Pizazz Difference

A large international magazine publisher had engaged a designer to upgrade their Auckland offices, and that design included displaying large copies of their current magazine covers, each held between two panels of clear acrylic, up on the walls in their entry foyer and reception area.

The magazine publisher’s management were very happy with their new offices and the magazine cover displays. They liked the visual impact the covers had because there were no picture frames competing for visual attention.

After several weeks, we got a call from the publisher’s receptionist, who had been given the job of changing the large copies of the magazine covers. She explained that she was finding it very difficult, because when she unscrewed the front screws of the Monomounts, everything was released, and she had to get the two panels down from the wall, replace the large flimsy graphic image, then get the image and panels back up on the wall, keeping everything aligned correctly while she reinstalled the front screws into the Monomounts. She was very concerned that she could drop a panel and damage it, and/or the image, and/or the wall or the furniture.

We understood her problem, and after analysis, we created the solution: our three part Multimount.

We did this by turning the front screw of the Monomount into two parts: the first part secures the back panel in place, so that when the second part, which secures the graphic image and front panel to the first part, is unscrewed, all that is released is the graphic image and front panel, while the back panel remains secured on the wall. This solution made changing the graphic images easy, fast, and safe.

We called our new standoffs Multimounts, and it became our first patent.

Our second patent covered displaying graphic images between two panels using Multimounts. It also covers our Extra Spacers.

Our third patent was for our Edgemounts, which enable valuable graphic images including works of art, photography etc; to be displayed and changed without putting any holes through the images, that occurs when disposable posters are displayed with Multimounts.

Our core values

Quality

Our standoffs have enduring quality because they are made up to a quality standard at every stage of the manufacturing process, rather than by cutting corners at every opportunity, to achieve the cheapest price.

Pizazz standoffs are unconditionally guaranteed to be free of any material and/or manufacturing defects.

Service

We are customer centric. Providing our customers with consistently excellent service is the foundation of our business. Everything we do is considered from the customer’s point of view from the start.

We are easily contactable by email and phone, and you will communicate with a member of our team, not an AI chatbot.

Value

We strive to keep our prices as affordable and cost effective, for as many customers as possible, without compromising our quality.

Many customers have found that buying the cheapest priced products can be the most expensive decision, because they often find they need to be replaced with better quality products.

Integrity

Our success is based on our consistent honesty and transparency in all our dealings with our customers and suppliers.

We are authentic – we say what we will do and do what we say. If anything goes awry, as can occasionally happen in any business, we immediately focus our energies on making it right.

We remain very interested in collaborating with customers, to create new systems for displaying all types of graphic images and introducing them to the market.

Do you supply wall anchors with your Monomounts or Multimounts?

It is crucially important that the A Parts are securely attached to the wall/substrate. Secure and safe installations require that the wall/substrate anchors used are specifically made for use with the type of wall/substrate at the installation. These anchors are available from hardware stores.

For this reason, we do not supply anchors and screws because there are a number of different walls and/or substrates types, made from different materials; wood, concrete, brick, hollow etc. There are wall anchors specifically made for use with each type of wall/substrate and we have not seen a universal anchor that functions well across all types of walls/substrates.

How far apart can Pizazz Multimounts standoff be spaced?

Spacing is determined by the rigidity and weight (Monomount Panel Capacities and Multimount Panel Capacities) of the panel material, the size of the and the ‘desired look’. As a general rule for rigid panels a mid-point M is used when the distance apart exceeds 600mm for small, 900mm for medium and 1200mm for large, XL + XXL size M – these dimensions should be reduced for panels that are not rigid.

Can Mono mounts and Mutlimounts be used outdoors?

Pizazz standoffs can be used externally/outdoors subject to the following considerations:
Pizazz Aluminium
: They are made from 6061 grade which can be anodised and then used in outdoor applications: if they are anodised to a minimum fix of 20 microns. We do not anodise because there is a wide range of colors available and a different thickness requirements for different applications and we think that it is best for the customers organise their own anodising and select the color/thickness they want.

Pizazz Brass: have been tested for external use - and surpassed a 1,000 hours salt spray test done to the American Standard ASTMB117. However, because brass is an alloy of copper, zinc etc. it can deteriorate very slowly over time, depending on the environment.

The reason we do not recommend our Brass for external/outdoor use, is that there are so many variables of ‘external/outdoors’ however, we know that some customers do use our Brass externally/outdoors. If customers want to use brass externally, we advise them to spray the standoffs with clear silicon (especially the internal threads) which will adhere to the brass long term and seal it, thereby considerably slowing down/preventing the possibility of corrosion.

Pizazz Hybrid Brass/Resin: we know that some customers do use Hybrid Brass externally/outdoors. If customers want to use these externally, we advise them to spray the C or E parts with clear silicon which will adhere to the brass long term and seal it, thereby considerably slowing down/preventing corrosion. The A +/or B parts of our Hybrid range are made of Resin which can be used externally (see below Resin Information).

Pizazz Resin: can be used externally/outdoors, because the Resin will not corrode and they have a UV inhibitor additive in them. We have carried out trials to ascertain how they perform externally/outdoors in New Zealand’s very high UV climate. Our Standard colors performed well, with no visible signs of fading after 6 months, but the PT and SA Colors did show fading – some colours more than others, but all colours to some extent.

Stainless Steel
The best material for standoffs used in external/outdoor applications is marine grade (316/316L) stainless steel. We are in the process of replacing our Brass standoffs with Marine Grade Stainless Steel. Stainless Steel authorities say:

‘Although stainless steel is much more resistant to corrosion than ordinary carbon or alloy steels, in some circumstances lower grade stainless can corrode. It is 'stainless' not 'stain impossible'. This is a buyer beware area.

There are a number of vendors offering 2 part stainless steel standoffs but most of these will be made using 303 or 304 grade Stainless Steel which are inferior to 316/316L in regard to corrosion resistance. We have seen examples of low grade stainless steel standoffs, with badly rusting and stained/mottled appearance.
